Medicare Access & CHIP Reauthorization Act established in 2015 is aimed at ensuring fair pay for healthcare personnel involved in Medicare, expenses are controlled and improvement of healthcare (Sayeed et al., 2017). MACRA is based on a model that ensures high quality and effectiveness of health care offered and determination of physician or nurse reimbursement (Squitieri & Chung, 2017). The Act also incorporates quality reporting methods that existed before its development into a single system.

In implementing MACRA, Electronic Health Records Technology should meet the requirements of 2015 Edition of Health Information Technology Certification. The certification pays much attention to the implementation of APIs in order to allow secondary and tertiary use of stored clinical information (Sayeed et al., 2017). The use of Electronic Health Records is at the center of Quality Payment Program. As a result, APMs and also MIPs require the implementation of a certified Electronic Health Records system in order for an organization/health care facility to be eligible for positive adjustments in reimbursements offered by Medicare (Hess, 2017).

Implementation of MACRA revolves around patient-centered-care and improved medical/health care quality. Therefore, the Act impacts care both at the individual and population levels. The measures presented by the act promote participation of individuals and family members of patients as active participants of the health and medical care team. It also creates a platform for collaboration with providers of health and medical care hence patients can report and exchange information with their health providers (Hess, 2017). MACRA leads to improved patient outcomes, fair pay for health care providers, participation of the sick individuals and their family members in the decision making process and individual care.

In the healthcare organization that I work for, procedures to ensure that the existing Electronic Health Records system meets the requirements of the 2015 Edition of Health Information Technology Certification will be implemented. This will ensure compliance and eligibility for positive adjustments given by Medicare.
