As noted by Blais & Hayes (2015), the nursing profession is evolving at a greater pace due to changes in the healthcare system. My vision of nursing is that it will be a profession at the forefront of new trends in the healthcare system and that nurses will have sufficient education to lead the change in various clinical areas. This vision of nursing is similar to the author’s because the book discusses current trends in healthcare and how they are affecting the nursing profession. Nurses will have the biggest part to play in the evolving health care system as patients become consumers seeking the ultimate deal on the best care. Furthermore, patient satisfaction will be important as patients pay for most of their healthcare costs. As stated by Blais & Hayes (2015), Nurses will have to keep up with novel processes and technologies to be able to provide quality care. Therefore, my vision of nursing is similar to the authors.

Due to these changes in the healthcare system, BSN nurses will take more leadership and primary care roles. Since nurses are the foundation of the healthcare industry, developing superior leadership skills will be critical for success as a BSN nurse. Patients look to Registered Nurses for guidance, help, and care; therefore, a BSN nurse will experience moments when leadership traits are paramount. BSN nurses will also experience an increased demand because the hospital is baying for magnet status. For hospitals to achieve magnet status, 100% of its nurse managers must have at least a BSN. BSN nurses are more prepared for bedside care and leadership; therefore, they will have more career opportunities. The need for evidence-based approaches to care will also make BSN nurses more critical to the healthcare system; hence, their increased demand.

Possible future trends in healthcare that would affect nursing include changes in care delivery, increased patient expectations, and technological advancements. Nursing care practice is experiencing significant change as facilities such as retail clinics, and ambulatory surgery centers are providing care beyond the hospital setting. As healthcare moves towards the community, nurses will have novel opportunities to utilize their knowledge outside the hospital setting. Newly licensed nurses are taking work in home health, ambulatory care, and nursing homes, which is in line with a move towards a holistic care approach (Blais & Hayes, 2015). Preventive care is another trend that will affect nurses are healthcare providers focus on encouraging patients to live healthier lifestyles to prevent health conditions from arising. Increased patient expectations are changing the role of nurses. Since nurses are direct care caregivers, they determine the quality of care provided by healthcare organizations. Consumers can easily access the satisfaction rates of healthcare organizations online; therefore, nurses will be critical in ensuring that hospitals maintain high standards. Finally, technological developments in the healthcare industry are moving rapidly, and nurses must stay abreast. Nurses must be adaptable in learning new equipment and system such as remote monitoring devices and advanced patient simulators.

Health and healthcare in 2032 will be significantly different from now. One of the changes will be a move towards home-based care. As the population of the elderly increase, the demand for healthcare will increase, and management of chronic conditions will be done mainly in the community. Most of the services that are currently offered in the hospital setting will be provided in at home. Another likely scenario in 2032 is the adoption of advanced technologies in healthcare such as artificial intelligence. Preventive care will also be a central theme by 2032 as healthcare providers seek to prevent illness from occurring.
