Affirmative action is the support given to those facing discrimination in the places of work and other public places. The affirmative action policies and practices were created in 1961 to ensure that there was no job discrimination against the minorities. Reskin outlined the effects of affirmative action on stakeholders and from her study she points out that affirmative action does not hamper business productivity. Also, the policies of affirmative action reduce the cost of production for companies.

Reskin outlines a number of impacts of affirmative action which includes:

Impact on American Commerce where employers level of productivity may be influenced by the affirmative action. An example is when an employer gives jobs based on level of qualification rather than their race and sex and thus end up having efficient workers who will improve the competitive level of the firm.

Impact on profitability is also related to the affirmative action introduced. With a clear plan of employment, the company ensures that they have hired competitive staff members who will facilitate the profitability level of the company. The choice of employment is related to the qualification of employees and not on the gender, race, and family relation. When employees are employed out of being favoured they become reluctant in doing their duties.

Impact on cost may also be experienced when the company does not apply proper affirmative action. Informal employment may appear to be cheap in the short run but will cost the firms due to the discriminatory cases that may be filed.

US business stakeholders supported the affirmative action and especially for the equality of the minorities and women in the society. Every activist believed that discrimination should not be encouraged in the working environment.

Based on the research study, affirmative action is still relevant in the current working environment. Diversity in the nation results to innovations increases the security level in the country, and results in improved performance. Most people have discouraged the racial, sexual, and gender discrimination and are sure that if it is encouraged, there will be little development in the nation. When there is discrimination of the minority in the society, they feel isolated in the ghettos which may lead to security cases. The minor groups in the non-developed areas create negative interactions among the majority group and become resistant to the rules and regulations of the country. To avoid the riots and fights with the police, the country should come up with a plan to ensure that all individuals are treated equally. It is also important to give students a chance to quality education. Students should be educated on the different life experiences from early education age to college. After college, students should have training on their career experiences and should also be given internship positions in different organizations.

Even with the great support of the affirmative action, there are still negative thoughts on the policy. The argument against the affirmative action is that it has resulted to reverse racism in education and employment sectors. Most individuals argue that affirmative action encourages employment for the bet qualified thus not giving a chance for the new graduates in the market. Also, promotions are given to the employees that have been in the organizations and very few chances are given to external job seekers.

Based on Reskin’s analysis on affirmative action and my research, I support that affirmative action is still necessary in the current labor market. Every individual seeking a job and education in the country should be given an equal chance and opportunity to grow. Diversity will help increase innovations, bring in new developments, and promote security in the nation.
