Discussion and Analysis
The economy in the United States is growing, and unemployment rates are high, which averaged at 14.7 % as of April 2020 (The World Bank, 2020). Many employees turn to job posting sites to look for employment opportunities being offered by various companies (Almo et al, 2018). The major players when it comes to job searching sites are LinkedIn, Indeed, CareerBuilder, Glassdoor, and Monster. Indeed, and CareerBuilder are known to produce candidates with college degrees from accredited colleges. Monster and Glassdoor provide opportunities for candidates who are fresh from college or only have attained high school education. LinkedIn is not a job board but a social network for professionals, and in recent years it has become one of the best sites for employers to post their jobs. From the job sites listed above, CareerBuilder and LinkedIn are the most expensive in terms of cost for employers to advertise their job offerings as they help eliminate less serious candidates. Serious employers do not appreciate receiving applications from less qualified applicants.
The best fit website for NMHC Inc. to advertise the position for the senior Windows Server System administrator is LinkedIn. LinkedIn boasts of more than 650 million members, and 45 % of employed individuals are avid LinkedIn users (Almo et al, 2018). LinkedIn, therefore, provides more opportunities not just for NMHC Inc. but also other employers in finding the right candidates for a shorter time. LinkedIn stands out from other job sites because it is a social network that has been built around professional, job-based profiles (Almo et al, 2018). More than 70 % of LinkedIn users are candidates who are not looking for a job, but they are very active on the platform, thus presenting a perfect target for NHMC Inc. The advanced search tool on LinkedIn plays an integral role in helping recruiters identify the right professionals that match the experience and qualifications as per the job (Philips and Gully, 2015). Rather than NMHC Inc. spending a lot of time design a job advert, the organization is instead focusing on making their recruitment process smarter by leveraging the power of LinkedIn Groups, reference checks, and social endorsements by other professionals.
Advancement in technology has made the web become an information resource. Organizations need to understand emerging trends for locating and utilizing this information. More than 80 percent of Fortune 500 companies in the United States post their job opening on their corporate websites, while 75 percent of human resource professionals make use of job boards to supplement their recruitment methods. This competitive analysis provides insight to companies on the useful characteristics of job boards that can help them reach a larger pool of applicants and meet their hiring requirements.
