The newspaper article that has been chosen for this article covers the unemployment rate in the United States of America following the 2017 disruptive weather conditions that hit this country by storm. The US has lost an approximated number of lost jobs of 33,000which makes a drastic drop of 4.2%. This is a big blow for the country to lose that kind of a huge number at any particular time. All these losses were incurred from the hurricanes that that took place and walloped Texas, Florida as well as all the neighboring states. This saw the economy losing a huge number of existing jobs which were more than 33,000 (Cohen, 2017). This contributed to the increasing number of unemployed in the US. This article was written by Cohen J in 2017 during that tragic moment. This essay covers how the author has utilized the descriptive statistic, expressing its meaning as well as the characteristics of how it can be of advantages when well used.

The article that is published by the New York Times has well utilized the data as well as its presentation; it has been seen to use measures of central tendency through the use of mean. The article goes by the name "The US Lost 33,000 Jobs in September; Unemployment Rate Dips to 4.2%. The article was written by Patricia Cohen in the year2017. The article simply talks about how the hurricane that took place for the mentioned period affected the job market in a big way. However, the discoursing parts were omitted due to the fact of sharing a positive message to the people. Negative news will also affect the job market since it is a fundamentally strong part of the market (Cohen, 2017). However, they also reported that the decrease in jobs was also accompanied by a year-over-year gain in wage growth of about 2.9% that was also brought about by the weather disruptions. The hiring process was also held because of the responsibility of providing care at homes to the affected was also on the rise. This made them unavailable for the jobs but the good thing is that things are now back to normal as reported by the New York Times. The same kind of situation was also experienced in Texas where most of the manufacturing jobs were left vacant where on the other hand some of the organizations were left shut down until the situation has gotten better.

The article has well utilized the descriptive statistics where it has used the mean to present its statistical data. The method has been used in order to provide a clear picture of what was going on at that particular time. The graph provided in the article also provides an overview of the situation as well as the exact numbers involved and affected during that natural calamity. The mean used presents data from the year 2005 all the way to 2017 and how the change has been going on. It is clear that the number of people who were reporting that they are not working due to unfavorable weather conditions kept on increasing as time went by (Cohen, 2017). The approximated number of workers who were not reporting to work reached over 1.5 million people. This is a clear indication of how big the disaster was. The translation of how the recovery process has been conducted is clear and evident in the bar graph.

This article applies much to the real world than anything else since it covers a large ground involving a wider population as well as how they have been affected. It relates to the world in the sense that the community, as well as the state at large, has been in a big way affected. It also relates to my future goal in the sense as that addressing natural calamities as well as helping people during disasters has always been my goal and my longtime dream. I have always wished to be there for those who need help and a shoulder to lean on during times like this and provide the necessary help to them. This is a situation that can find anyone at any particular time and so I always tend to find myself wearing that shoe and understand better whatever they are going through (Cohen, 2017). This is a touching moment that should worry every citizen and take it as their responsibility through providing these affected people with food, shelter, and clothes for them to start a new life. This article has not only been educative but also provided a strong feeling towards achieving those goals.

In conclusion, Hurricane Katrina was one of the biggest disasters that took place in August 2005 in American history. This calamity left many without their relatives as well as without their homes. Apart from that many were left jobless which accounted to the number of the overall of the unemployed peoples in the US. Therefore, looking at the statistics presented by this article, one can see the clear picture of how the damage affected the country as well as the people living and working in those particular areas (Cohen, 2017). The magnitude of the damage has well been accounted for and how the recovery process is fairing as well. This statistic gives a clear picture and a better understanding of the unemployment rate that was contributed by this natural calamity. The recovery process is surely on a slow pace but it will soon be achieved and things will go back to normal and people will get back to their respective jobs.
