Ingredients 

1 large onion, chopped ($ 0.65) 

1 large red chopped pepper ($1.25) 

3 celery ribs chopped into small pieces (1 celery rib=$2.13) 3 celery ribs ($ 6.39). 

6 Pepperoncini (1 Pepperoncini = $ 0.55) = $ 3.3 

3 garlic cloves that are already minced = ($2.7) 

1 10 lb. turkey ($ 19.2) 

½ cup soft butter (1 cup = $ 1.52) ½ a cup $ 0.76) 

2 tablespoons creole seasoning (1 tablespoon= $ 1.63) 2 tablespoons = $ 3.26) 

Total cost of ingredients = ($ 0.65 + $1.25 + $ 6.39 + $ 3.3 + $2.7 + $ 0.76 +$ 3.26 + $ 19.2) = $ 37.51 

$37.51 x 0.0875= $ 3.2821 =$ 40.7921 

$ 40.7921 = 10 servings 

20 servings = $ 40.7921 x 2 =$ 81.5842

Directions 

Thoroughly mix onion, pepper, celery ribs, Pepperoncini and garlic cloves. 

Place a towel on a cutting board and then place the turkey on top of it. 

Remove the gizzards, liver and the cavity. 

Rinse the turkey and dry it with paper towels. 

On the Turkey, rub the soft butter. 

Using the creole seasoning, thoroughly season the whole turkey. 

Place the turkey on a large roasting pan with a wide heavy base. 

Fill the cavity with the mixed ingredients; onion, pepper, celery ribs, Pepperoncini and garlic cloves. 

To ensure margination, place the turkey with the ingredients in its cavity in the refrigerator for some time. 

Preheat the oven to a temperature of 400 degrees. 

Roast the turkey for about 20 minutes, lower the oven temperature to about 350 degrees and roast it again for about 30- 40 minutes. 

Remove the turkey from the pan, let it cool and carve it. 

Serve with the premade accompaniment.

Ground Beef Taco Dip. 

Prep/Total Time: 25 minutes 

Makes: 24 Servings. (1/2 cup servings) 

Ingredients:  

1 lb ground beef or turkey  ($3.99

3/4 cups water ( Free) 

2 envelopes taco seasoning, divided ($1 per envelope x 2 =  $2

2 cups fat free sour cream (1 cup = 8oz x 2 cups = 16 oz needed.  $2.49  for 16oz sour cream) 

1 package (8 oz) cream cheese softened. ( $2.29

2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce ($1.99 a head. 4 cups shredded= 1 head. 2 cups needed = half a head $1.99/2 =  .99cents

1 cup shredded cheese ($2.99 oz package, 1 cup shredded = 4 oz, $2.99/2 =  $1.49  a cup) 

3 medium tomatoes, finely chopped (3 medium = 1lb, 1lb =  $1.99

1 medium bell pepper, finely chopped (I prefer orange bell pepper, these are  $1.49  each) 

1 can of sliced riped olives, drained (1 can of 3.8oz olives =  $1.59

Since the total servings yield 24 and our potluck is for 20 we don't need to change or adjust our amounts of ingredients or price. For example, if our serving yielded 12 (not 24) we would then need to multiply all the ingredients by two and this would then change the price of our ingredients by a multiplier of two as well.  

The total cost of ingredients: $18.32 x sales tax $ .0875 =  $19.92 

Direct labor cost:  

1 hour to go to the store, get the ingredients, and bring them home.  

25 minutes to prep and cook. 

5 minutes to set up. 

10 minutes to clean up.  

Total labor time: 1 hour 40 minutes. At $15 an hour, this will give us a direct labor cost of $25. 

$15/$60 = .25 cents per minute. 100 minutes x .25 cent =  $25

Overhead costs: 

$2.50 per DLH. 1 hour 40 min DLH = approx  $4.50  overhead cost. 

Total Cost: $19.92 + $25 + $4.50 =  $49.42 

Per person: $49.42/20 =  $2.47  a person. 

Directions: 

1. In a large skillet, cook and crumble beef over medium heat until no longer pink, 4-6 minutes; drain. Add water and one envelope taco seasoning; cook until thickened. Cool slightly. 

2. Beat sour cream, cream cheese and remaining taco seasoning until blended. Spread in a 3-qt. dish; add ground beef. Top with lettuce, cheddar, tomatoes, pepper and olives. 

There are a few reasons why the above recipe would be the best alternative. First of all, it requires less preparation time, hence, it is easier to make and therefore, saves time for other activities. Closely related to the above, there are fewer steps required, thus, reducing the chances of skipping an essential step and hence reducing the possibility of the whole dish not cooking as expected. Another major reason is the fact that this recipe is less expensive in terms of the total cost of ingredients required, the labor cost as well as the overhead cost. It costs $2.47 a person while the initial one costs $ 7.3617. In choosing the latter alternative, it is possible to save up to $ 4.8917. The saved amount can be used to pay for other peripheral activities that are required for the success of the gathering. Also, it is easier to obtain the ingredients needed for this alternative in a nearby store, making it a very convenient choice over the first.
