Alfred Kinsey extended his research studies in gall wasps to humans to study human sexuality and social dynamics that influence human sexual preferences and behaviour with funding from the assistance of the National Research Council and Rockefeller Foundation (Carrol, 2017). In his study, Kinsey collected more than one thousand interviews, which contained responses of participants on their sexual backgrounds. Kinsey also engaged in assorted sexual practices with his interviewees to gather firsthand information about their sexual experiences. He took the research studies a step further by involving himself in homosexuality, and heterosexual relations with staff in the Institute for sex to gather information for his research. After the research studies, Alfred Kinsey published a sexuality report which detailed human sexual preferences, interests, attitudes, and behaviours.

Contemporary society integrates the use of contraceptives and other family planning methods which were developed in Kinsey’s human sexuality research studies, as suggested by Carr (2019). Kinsey’s research indicated that so many men preferred having consensual sex with other men. Furthermore, the studies revealed that women preferred clitorial orgasms as opposed to vaginal orgasms. Lawyers and judges in the American Law Institute moved to propose the decriminalisation of unconventional forms of sexual behaviours and preferences, like homosexuality, fornication, and cohabitation. Moreover, society embraces different forms of sexuality by decreasing their acceptance of double standards in human sexuality.

From the research study on human sexuality, I think individuals should not be judged based on their different sexual preferences but rather on their personalities. I feel Kinsley’s human sexuality study has considerably changed societal perceptions of the roles of women and sexual preferences. The study has played a crucial role in advocating for equality within society regardless of the individuals’ sexual behaviours.
