For adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18, sexuality is marked with the onset of puberty. In this phase, the physical development changes include gaining weight and height. An adolescent can add about 6 inches in height and roughly 20 pounds in a year. Boys develop a deep voice and more manly adult physique while the girls develop breasts and a curvier female physique (Carroll, 2018) . Individuals maturely at different paces, some mature early while others mature late. For both sexes, this is considered a reversal of cultural expectation and could be a cause of embarrassment. A boy who matures late in a group of boys feels humiliated.

Emotional self-awareness is the hallmark of an adolescent's psychological development. Adolescents struggle with achieving comfort with their bodies. A girl may find it embarrassing at first when her breasts start showing. It is at this stage that the individuals develop an identity to separate from their guardians, and fight to prove their capacity in establishing intimate and sexual relationships (Carroll, 2018) . The individual may grow distant from their parent, setting boundaries on personal space, such as their bedroom while they try to find romantic attachments.

An adolescent's sexual behavior is characterized by abstinence and experimentation. Teenagers tend to masturbate more as they seek to achieve orgasm. The desire to experience orgasm, rather than pleasurable sensation drives the sexual experiments. However, teenagers may resort to abstinence, the practice of refraining from sexual activities. This can be voluntary, motivated by religious or personal beliefs, or involuntary in cases where there are no available sexual partners (Carroll, 2018) . Nonetheless, teenagers establish sexual contact by engaging in several sexual behaviors ranging from kissing, caressing, and sex. Sex is divided into oral, anal, and vaginal intercourse. It is at this phase of human development that individuals engage more in sexual intercourse.
