1.

A statute of limitations is a law that forbids the prosecutors from charging a person with a crime that was committed more than a specified number of years ago. 1 The law sets the maximum period within which the parties involved can initiate legal proceedings for the alleged offense. The period, in this case, varies from one jurisdiction to another and thus the nature of the offense would determine the time that is allowed under the statute of limitations. Most criminal cases, except for serious crimes like murder, have statutes of limitations.

2.

Law and culture influence each other even though they are two distinct concepts. In society, people adhere to different styles of living which form their culture. However, in this culture, peaceful coexistence can only be achieved once there are proper laws guiding the co-existence of people. 2 Law enforcement and law-making bodies always take into account the cultural values of the people in order to develop a law that suits the entire community. Law can therefore not go against the culture of a community unless it has the intention of changing the culture. 3 In most cases, laws are always aligned with culture.
