I prefer using the Depo-Provera contraceptive approach, which prevents the sperm from reaching the ovary and ovulation, thereby having a double-preventive way for stopping pregnancy. I prefer it due to the ease of usage, primarily due to the short period of consumption within a year. The birth control shot equally has vast advantages compared to disadvantages.

My contraception of choice is the birth control shot, also known as Depo-Provera, the Depo shot, or DMPA. Depo-Provera entails the hormone progestin, which, when taken, functions as a barricade to getting pregnant by obstructing ovulation (Itriyeva, 2018). The latter regards the process whereby the egg gains access to the ovary; therefore, with no egg present in the fallopian tubes, pregnancy cannot occur. The hormone progestin equally makes the cervical mucus thicker. The net impact for thickening the mucus in the cervix involves the prevention of the sperm to gain access past the region. The incapacitation of the sperm equally prevents pregnancy. Therefore, the Depo-Provera contains the hormone progestin that functions as a double-edged sword in preventing the egg and the sperm from gaining access to each other, thereby preventing their fusion, leading to pregnancy. Although the Depo-Provera prevents pregnancy, it does not act as a preventive measure for sexually transmitted infections (Sathyamala, 2020).

I chose the Depo-Provera approach because I felt it was easy to remember instead of taking daily birth control pills, which missing any day can lead to devastating effects. The duration for taking the birth control shot (Depo-Provera) is every 12-13 weeks, three to four times within a year (Callaci, 2018). The ideal approach involves seeking medical assistance in taking the shot, requiring an appointment at a health center. However, one can acquire a supply of the shots at a medical center and return home to use them personally. I find the four times within a year dosage of the Depo-Provera contraceptive approach as ideal compared to other birth control pills that require daily consumption for them to work. The daily consumption is difficult to uphold and may lead to devastating effects if a day goes without consuming the birth control pill. The thought that I may end up missing a day scares me, which compounds the choice of the Depo-Provera approach. The birth control shot is consumable at any time, with medics suggesting it as safe for consumption seven days after starting a menstrual cycle, which would effectively prevent pregnancy. However, if taken at a different time, there is a need to undertake a complimentary birth control measure such as using a condom. Based on the mentioned attributes, I would prefer the Depo-Provera approach pregnancy prevention approach compared to the rest.

The Depo-Provera has vast advantages and slight disadvantages. For the former, the birth control shot is almost 100% effective, convenient, lasts for a longer time, does not require daily consumption, does not interfere with sexual intercourse, has a secrecy value, reduces the risk of cancer, and assists individuals who face painful or heavy menstrual cycle (Callaci, 2018). The Depo-Provera contraceptive entails the hormone progestin, which prevents the male sperm and female egg from getting into contact. The double-edge function makes it work nearly to perfection. The rate of consumption that is approximately three times within a year makes it convenient for usage. The prevention equally lasts for a sufficient time with no need for daily pill taking. Depo-Provera does not impact sexual intercourse and can be taken in private hence nobody else would learn of its usage. According to X, the birth control shot reduces the risk of contracting endometrial cancer (that of the uterus lining) by 80% due to the released hormone. Depo-Provera equally helps with heavy or painful periods based on its impact on the uterine wall. On the other hand, some of the disadvantages of Depo-Provera regards the nuisance it may facilitate significantly for an extended period due to the 13 weeks with which it lasts. Another disadvantage regards the irregular or unusual bleeding it may cause, especially during the onset of consumption. However, the situation improves over time. The birth control shot is, therefore, generally good with vast advantages compared to the disadvantages.

I prefer using the Depo-Provera contraceptive approach due to its vast advantages with minor disadvantages, especially the convenience of consumption with only three to four times within a year. Other benefits include positive health outcomes with the disadvantages capable of being turned into advantages. However, it is crucial to practice safe sex due to its non-capability to prevent infectious spread.
