Suppose a biased coin is tossed 8 times with the probability of heads up is equal to 0.6. What is the probability of achieving less than 3 heads?
Binomial distribution assumes the following properties;
The outcome of the probability events must be independent
The distribution must have n number of trials
There are only two possible outcomes that is success or failure.
The probability of success p(X=x) remains constant in each attempt ( Feller, 2 015) .
In the above example; the outcome of tossing a coin is independent of the previous toss. There are 8 numbers of trials ( Feller, 2015) . There are only two possible outcomes; getting a head or tail. The probability of getting a head (That is probability of success remains constant).Therefore the above example meets all conditions for binomial distribution.
