Thus far, my definitions of diversity and social identity have significantly expanded compared to what I understood before the course. Today, I can define diversity by incorporating different lenses including backgrounds, age, religions, ethnicities, nationalities, and preferences among others (Schmid, Hewstone, & Al Ramiah, 2012). Other associating it with diversity, I believe that my scope of social identity has significantly improved because I know it essentially means an individual’s sense of who they are in a group setting (Healey, 2013).

The four lenses approach is helpful in explaining the unique relationship that social identity has with diversity. It provides an individual with a broader outlook of the position the person occupies and compares it the diverse characteristics displayed by other societal members.

Furthermore, the four lenses provide the learner with a new way of looking diversity as it relates to an individual, society, and the environment. It not only enhances the way people view diversity but also provides them with critical information on how various factors interconnect to define a unique individual in the social setting.

Diversity has a vital role in defining the future. Other than enabling people to understand one another better, it provides individuals with an impetus to borrow values and principles that improve their lives. The appreciation of diversity sets a center-stage for an all-inclusive society free from racism, gender stereotypes, and ethnicity among others.

The two essential concepts of diversity and social concept will significantly help me as I continue with my life. Diversity will provide me with the necessary character and mental framework to exist in cosmopolitan culture. It will enhance me with a holistic point of view that will enable me to appreciate the similarities and differences that I continue to meet as days go. Social identity will critically help me to define my role in society and further enable me to understand the unique strengths and weaknesses that I might possess in relation to others.
