Based on the reading, ethics are moral principles that govern a person’s behavior or conducting during a specific activity or action. These principles should be strictly followed to promote the ethical behaviors of a person. The main guiding principles of ethics include accountability, compliance with laws, confidentiality, integrity, professionalism, respect, and trust ( National Contract Management Association, 2020) . These principles perform vital roles in promoting professionalism in different fields. Ethics directly affects how people approach different situations. In some instances, people fail to adhere to ethical codes of conduct due to a conflict of interest. For example, Darleen Druyun in the reading used her position as a Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary to influence the awarding of a tender to Boeing without observing legal procuring tenders.

How Ethics Impacts Contracts and Contract Management

Ethics positively impact contract and contract management. First, it helps in promoting accountability and compliance with laws in awarding contract and contract management. When procurement officials adhere to tenders awarding statutes, it will ensure that government contracts are awarded to qualified people based on merits ( National Contract Management Association, 2020) . Therefore, it is prudent for government procurement like Darleen Druyun to promote an ethical code of conduct when performing their roles.

Besides, ethics and ethical codes of conduct promotes fairness, confidentiality, and integrity in contract awarding and contract management. When government officials subscribe to guiding principles of ethics, they will promote fairness and honesty in tender or government contract awarding to ensure that only qualified contractors are considered ( Leung, 2005) . As a result, this can help eliminate unethical practices such as conflict of interest, as witnessed in the reading where Darleen Druyun used her position as a Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary to favor some contractors. Also, applying the guiding principles of ethics can help avoid public protests because it enhances proper contract awarding and management. Hence, it is imperative to encourage compliance with ethical principles to promote fairness in contract awarding and management.
