Experience
While working with teams, I have encountered five significant challenges. The challenges include groupthink, lack of participation, communication challenges, low group self-esteem, or lack of identity, and difficulty in decision-making. The obstacles limit the potential of the team and result in unfulfilled objectives and team disintegration. Low self-esteem and lack of identity is the foundational problem. I have observed that when a team lacks belief in its identity, it develops the other challenges and ultimately, loss of morale, purpose, and disunity. Disunity is the final stage of group disintegration. Disunity causes the team members to be absent from team meetings and events, divided interests, and blame for leadership and other team members that are not cooperative. I have worked with several teams, but I have seen the same trend in six teams, which confirms the pattern.
Resources
My experience working with teams is a valuable resource at my disposal. I have learned how the mechanisms of teams operate. I can detect a team with low self-esteem or lacks identity at the initial stages. Besides, I have also acquired lessons on how to manage a dying team and focus it on achieving its goals and objectives. The experience will form valuable resource in future team management. Besides my experiences, I will use written materials and videos on team management. TED talks and other credible sites offer methods of managing teams that I cannot ignore. Managing low self-esteem and lack of identity are essential components of team management. Reference and to materials on team motivation and effective team leadership are useful to resurrecting lost team identity and esteem.
