Supply chain networks describe and help organizations to look at and consider movement of products from the companies to the customers. This allows development of a network to enhance easy flow of materials to the customers. A supply chain network involves companies’ links and flow of products and information between them.
Transportation system involves the movement of the products from one point to another from beginning of the supply chain to the customer. Suppliers can apply measures to lower costs while maintaining a balanced supply example cross-docking. Variations in the transport system can impact the supply chain as being expensive to manufacturers or delays to customer deliveries hence impacting the chain network

Supporting systems and flow of information may impact variation in the supply chain network. Information sharing within the various entities involved in the supply chain can greatly impact the network in that organizations through feedbacks from customers through distributor’s managers can make decisions e.g. increasing or decreasing supply, locations where various products are used more in relation to other locations
Material flow involves the process by which goods from raw materials to complete goods to reach customers. This entails the inbound logistics which show how raw materials move from various supplies to a final finished product for use by consumers.it also relies on the outbound logistics which show how the finished products are distributed from example National distribution centers to regional distribution centers or warehouses to supermarkets before finally reaching the end user (the customer). This can cause variations in the supply chain if example lack of raw materials from other suppliers can affect production and further disrupt the supply chain network
