Frederick can file a case under the IP law since he has a stamped research paper as proof of being the architect of the business idea. However, there are various questions he should ask himself before proceeding. First, what if the professors have a documentation to show that they had the same ideas before he presented his ideas to them? Will suing his professors jeopardize his relationship with them? Frederick is still a student and will need his professors in his endeavors in school. He should, therefore, be careful not to make his relationship with them ugly by suing them. Moreover, Frederick is a Christian and the Bible teaches us to abide in love and be slow to anger. The scripture in the book of Proverbs 17:14 advises Christians not to initiate a quarrel but rather, drop anything that may lead to quarrels. From a Christian point of view, a dialogue could be the best option for this case.

This issue should be dealt with carefully. Frederick should consider an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) which involves finding a resolution outside the court. Frederick should approach his professors and engage them in a dialogue. He should not focus on taking the entire business but getting a fair treatment. He deserves to be recognized as the architect of the idea and be accorded the benefits. If the professors cooperate, they should have a written agreement and perhaps a statement indicating that Frederick is the originator of the idea they devised and they agree to pay all the damages and grant him the necessary financial gain. Filing a case in court should come in as the last option in case the professors do not cooperate. But if after presenting his evidence the court rules against him then he should let go of the case.
