 For the last decades, environmental issues have been increasing across the world causing climate change and global warming. Various innovations and developments have been carried out in the world of supply chain management to curb environmental issues which affect business sustainability. Green supply chain management is among the modern innovations developed out by dynamic management of different suppliers to respond to customer’s behavior. Today most organizations and government agencies are putting into place proactive measures to create awareness of issues related to the environment. When designing green supply chain management, the organization needs to consider several environmental factors like the use of energy, emission of greenhouse gas, generation of wastes and material consumption ( Chin, Tat, & Sulaiman, 2015) . The major Principles of green supply chain (GSC) put in place include using environmentally friendly raw materials, reduction of the use of petroleum power and using recycling packages. 

Green supply chain calls for businesses to build up a good relationship between business and natural environment. According to Khan (2018), the green supply chain reduces environmental pollution, the cost of production and spur the growth of the economy leading to competitive advantage and customer satisfaction. Company’s which adapts green supply chain reveals reduced manufacturing waste through reducing and recycling products and building of a positive image. Today, the application of environmental protection by businesses has contributed to the success of the green supply chain. The main goal for adapting the green supply chain by the organizations is to reduce air, water, and waste pollution while enhancing the firm's performance. The green supply chain focuses on key sustainment strategies adopted by firms to mitigate environmental degradation and increase economic performance. Six crucial success factors for putting the green supply chain into practice include customer management, ethical leadership, competitiveness, supply management, regulatory and societal ( Chin et al., 2016)

In summary, the adaption of green supply chain management is crucial in enhancing the operational performance of firms through improving the quality of products and service delivery. Through GSC, organizations participate in improving environments by reducing the emission of harmful wastes.
