A.

From the readings in class, race and gender can only be perceived to be socially constructed traits and not biologically constructed. This is mainly because aspects of ethnic background, masculinity and feminism have been rooted in the fabric of the culture of many societies since the ancient times. Consequently, the roles, responsibilities, statuses, and position of people varied according to their race and gender. The implication of this statement is that the behavior of an individual will always be determined by the society because individuals always grow up in environments where the values, beliefs, and morals are determined by the culture ( Thompson, Hickey & Thompson, 2016 ). Individuals would, therefore, know if their actions are justified or unjustified based on what the society considers is right or wrong.

B.

Based on the information provided above, it is evident that the long-term employee’s argument is invalid. His Mediterranean ancestry and biological impulse have nothing to do with his desire to court the new employee. He is therefore wrong when he says that the trait can be found in all humans of the same gender and age. Based on the answer in part A, we can relate this scenario to show that the behavior may be socially constructed based on how the long-term employee perceives the new employee based on their appearance. The alleged biological trait does not, therefore, have anything to do with the behavior in question.
