Reflection

The stock prices for Amgen Inc. (AMGN) and Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) went up to $207.82 and $59.85 from $201.80 and $54.90 respectively while that of Netflix Inc. (NFLX) went down to $285.01 from $332.57. In week 8, my total investment has gone down to $24,267.95 from my initial investment of $ 24,953.10 in week 3. Based on this new value, it is slightly less than the initial investment and from an investor’s perspective I am upset. The speculation with AMGN and VZ stocks is that the companies could have introduced a new product to the market or gained synergies from mergers or acquisitions thereby increasing the companies’ value (Elton and Gruber, 2009).

Stock prices are prone to fluctuations due to supply and demand forces. If more investors want to buy a stock then its prices will go up; otherwise, when more investors are selling their stock the prices are bound to drop (Elton and Gruber, 2009). Tentatively, this could have happened with Netflix’s stock. The stock markets are volatile indicating that the prices are not static. Therefore, from an optimistic perspective, it is my speculation that the stock prices might go up in the subsequent weeks and consequently, my total worth will also increase.
