Fundraising is conducted with the intent to provide hope to those members in the community who are in need. In many cases, this benefit is practically for those it serves directly. However, few people think of the broader impact that the fundraiser will have on the society. Despite majority of the nonprofit organization being exempt from taxation, they generate a significant amount of tax revenue (Sobolewski, 2010). In this regard, these institutions will employ numerous professionals who will income and sales taxes like other regular citizens. Through this practice, the members of community within the region benefit as the local government has enough revenue to divert into various utilities required by the people (Rosen, 2012). There are numerous cases where the nonprofit organizations will provide financial support to local businesses including hotels, various retailers, and many others. These businesses will in turn lead to the employment of a number of people and pay taxes for their operations.
The above instances are a clear indicator that the nonprofit organizations have profound effect on the economy of the community. A recent study showed that the nonprofit organizations associated with arts and culture industry have generated a combined $166.3 billion in economic activity alone (Economic Impact, 2015). In this regard, it is evident that the Sunnyside region in Houston, Texas too will benefit greatly from fundraising. The people will experience an improved standards of living while the government will be able to generate more income from the employed people in the region (Malisow, 2016). The revenue generated is beneficial to the community at large as it can be used to reduce incidence of crime in the region which is one of the problematic issues in the area. It can effectively help improve the access to quality education which is another concern for the members of the community.
