Reflection on Leaders
My reflection of leaders who possess emotional intelligence skills comprises of their abilities to lead others. For instance, former President Obama possessed much emotional intelligence skills. This is evident in how he approached and handled various international issues. He would read and positively interpret the citizens’ moods before making any decision. Therefore, leaders who possess both social and emotional intelligence should be able to have self-control and be achievement-oriented. On the other hand, leaders who do not possess either emotional or social intelligence are not able to get the best out of their followers. The ideal example is President Trump. Trump has been able to showcase his low levels of emotional intelligence by giving out uninformed decisions through channels like social media platforms. He has failed to read people’s moods, in an extent of being provocative in his choice of words. This is due to the lack of emotional intelligence skills required by a leader. Thus, every leader should work towards growing their social and emotional skills to be effective.
