There is a crucial need to implement the new testing technology in the facility in my current practice setting. The increased demand for Covid-19 testing requires the use of new technology to enable the generation of results quickly. Because the proposed technology is new, and the healthcare staff is used to the old/previous testing methods, it is important to effectively manage the change. Change management refers to the methods and ways in which an organization describes and executes change in the external as well as internal processes ( McCalman et al., 2015 ). The change process will require a structured method for change to ensure a beneficial and effective transition while preventing or mitigating any disruptions.
To guide change management, Kurt Lewin developed a change model that comprises of three steps. These steps are unfreezing, implementing change, and refreezing. The unfreezing stage entails creating awareness of how an organization’s current state hinders an organization (Muldoon, 2018). This ensures adequate buy-in, which is essential for change acceptance. After unfreezing, the change activities/actions are implemented and then refreeze to make the change the acceptable way of doing things (Muldoon, 2018). Refreezing prevents people from going back to their past ways of doing things or behavior.
