Of all the recent ethical concerns that have risen from the United States Criminal Justice System, corruption has been on top of the list with it increasing from time to time. The leadership, as well as other employees and officers in the system, have from time to time construed with people who violated the law for their gains which in most cases are in monetary form. The reason why I chose this issue is that it is rampant in the society and very evident in the society today. Other ethical issues do exist, but corruption, which has also been identified as a global problem (Ortmeier, & III, 2009), is the most rampant of all. For the past few years, there have been numerous cases indicating corruption in the system. For instance, in the year 2011, a commander of a task force and other officers were put behind bars because of conspiring to sell drugs that were to be used in incriminating the suspects found with them (Solanga & Fraley, 2011).
Early this year, Paul Roberts (2017) wrote a piece in the Foreign Policy Journal where he described the system as being criminal itself. He highlighted how people in the system have been corrupt and selfish thus foregoing the main reason why they are put in such positions. However, this ethical problem can be brought to an end if the right measures are taken. As at this point, the first step would be to identify the corrupt leaders and relieve them from duty. The next step would be to rebrand the entire system by ensuring the revision and strengthening of policies that are put in place. This will see the eventual collapse of the corrupt nature of the scheme and bring forth a reformed institution that aims at playing its role and fulfilling its duties.
