Leadership is a significant aspect of any organization. Leaders are tasked with ensuring all organizational resources are geared towards achieving a particular service, both effectively and efficiently. Nursing profession forms a fundamental part of any healthcare system worldwide. Thus, strong leadership is necessary. The main difficulty a leader faces is opposition from his or her colleagues. As a leader, I would ensure that my main focus is the people with whom I work with. Making each person feel involved and own the suggestions I make, will provide little to no resistance when passing suggestions.

Moreover, ensuring the ideas I make are informed will solicit more support from my colleagues (Scully, 2015). As a leader, I should be well informed, more so, on current matters raising debate across the healthcare profession. These two approaches will ensure I am in a position to influence change in my area. I consider myself an organized individual. This is a strength I treasure, and it will play a vital role in enhancing my leadership. Planning requires organization and foreseeing is a skill any good leader should have.

Additionally, I am a good timekeeper, which will play a factor in my leadership role. I, however, consider myself impatient and relatively rigid to severe change. These two attributes need to be improved to enhance my leadership skills. Kumar, Adhish, and Chauhan (2014) suggest that good leaders should manage themselves by managing their emotions. They propose awareness and self-management as the vital points for emotional competency. Thus, I will always try to be open to new ideas and also culture my empathy to aid in alleviating my impatience and rigidity.

As a leader, priorities are also necessary. Guditch (2017) suggests that leaders should be in a position to outline their short- and long-term goals. She recommends the adoption of the 30-60-90 plan to separate the days for achievements. Additionally, communication never goes wrong with strengthening an organization. As a leader, having at least 5 minutes of the day to talk to other people and listen to their opinions builds up professional relationships hence improve the overall quality of service.
