History writes of various leaders who were able to influence public policy through their leadership styles, among them Florence Nightingale and President Franklin Roosevelt. Each of these leaders played a key role in ensuring the development of Public Policies that are used till date in respective industries.
Florence Nightingale was a nurse by profession and is credited with revolutionizing the Nursing Industry during the Crimean War where she took care of British Soldiers. She came up with standards and conditions which would be followed and implemented in the industry for many years to come, with her views and take on the industry being at the forefront (Nightingale, 1863).

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, on the other hand, served as the President of the United States in 1933 till his death in 1945. He was the thirty-second president and came up with public policies that formed the foundation for many of the Policies that are used in today’s economy. When President Franklin Roosevelt took office, the country was at the peak of the Great Depression and is credited with enacting policies that stabilized the condition of the country (Stax et al., 2014).
Nightingale and Roosevelt are both credited with influencing the development of modern policies that are used to date. Through their selfless service to either the nation or the people formed as a foundation for new policies to be utilized in various sectors of the country, However, Nightingale utilized a style of leadership that was conservative and modest (Nightingale, 1863). She did not wish for any credit to be bestowed upon her; her leadership style was modest and conservative. President Roosevelt was an effective and charismatic leader. He utilized his personality as an instrument of government, unlike Florence Nightingale. His motivation and drive were to bring the country out of the depression while ensuring the development of measures that would prevent a reoccurrence of such a depression (The Hauenstein Center, 2005). Nightingale, on the other hand, was working only to aid the people of the time with clean and healthy nursing care systems.
Different leadership styles when incorporated in a specific manner work to develop and implement public policies that work effectively. Nightingales simple and effective style led to the development of nursing care systems that have effectively been utilized to date a charismatic leadership style inspires and motivates people to transform to achieve a higher goal.
