There are several similarities between a line graph and a scatter graph. They are both used in recording personalized values of data. However, a line graph is distinct in that it applies a line to merge points of data, while a scatter plot does not have a line to join the dots. By combining the dots with a bar, a line graph eases the process of recognizing a localized change from a point to another (Yi, 2019). Usually, time is indicated on the X-axis and shifts on the Y-axis; it is possible to acknowledge differences in a specific entity over time by recognizing the absolute scales for each axis.

Additionally, one can detect plot changes in distinct groups and readily compare data from them depending on time. Merging dots identifies even insignificant changes over time. Considering the scatter plots, they are majorly used to recognize patterns taken by a given whole data, and thus, they do not involve dot connections (Labwrite Resources, 2004). Scatter plots only reveal relationships as either weak or strong, negative or positive, nonlinear or direct, and no precise details. To distinguish patterns, scatter plots indicate distinct patterns in information by disintegrating data points into classes based on the closeness or furtherness of their constellation.

Hi Asja Amos, I concur that a line graph constitutes a horizontal and a vertical axis and is compared against one another. A line graph and scatter plot are similar in that they include markings on the axis. Nonetheless, they are both distinct from each other in that a line graph has lesser data points revealing correlations between two aspects and offers better visual reliability of data trends in a continuous line. Also, a scatter plot has more data points in comparison to a line graph.
