The lesson from the documentary is that peace and independence are the main aspects that promote growth. The nations that were colonized started growing after they gained independence. Currently, the gap between rich nations such as the United States and Asia and Africa is reduced due to peace and autonomy (BBC, 2010). Peace and independence determine how a country promotes growth, thus supporting development.
All countries are becoming healthier and wealthier. The graph of health against wealth indicates that all nations were once poor and sick. Over the past 200 years, change was seen, starting with the western world growth. The former colonies stated to become healthier after gaining independence, and most of them are at the middle of wealth and health.

The countries surging ahead are mostly western, the United States, Italy, Brazil, and others. These countries were never colonized, thus had growth opportunities. India and Africa are still lagging behind. However, some nations and cities such as Shanghai are performing well, with wealth equal to that of United States countries (BBC, 2010). Other nations, such as Congo, are still behind.
In my opinion, each nation has a growth opportunity. Asia had the most impoverished countries, such as India and China. However, a significant change has been seen with nations such as China. They have taken advantage of the current technology and industrialization to improve their economy and living standards. Leadership plays a large role in country development. Nations such as Congo, which are lagging behind, are faced with poor leadership issues, which slows down progress.
Countries lagging behind should look at developing regions and establish factors promoting it. Such strategies should then be implemented to encourage overall growth. Nations should take advantage of the available resources such as petroleum or minerals to enhance economic growth. To ensure every part of a country is developing, development projects should be supported in both urban and rural regions.
