My Leadership Skills

I have always looked up to my father. While he is human and he has his strengths and weaknesses, I admire his leadership skills. In particular, since childhood, my father taught me the importance of leading by example. While he did not necessarily use the term “servant leadership” he always demonstrated the characteristics of servant leaders. He was an avid reader and he always encouraged me to read widely to enhance my perception of life and societal issues. Moreover, I witnessed his dealings with his customers and employees in a bookshop he used to own. He was never bossy. As a matter of fact, if you were to visit him at the shop, you would think that he was one of the employees. The most important lesson from spending time with my father was that a leader can be firm without necessarily being bossy.

Strengths 

A possess strong motivational skills that endear me to many people 

I am an empathetic person 

I have excellent interpersonal skills 

I am an excellent manager and organizer 

I am a great team player with exceptional conflict resolution skills 

Weaknesses 

I am a perfectionist. As such, at times I require too much from my followers. 

I can get impatient at times. 

I am poor at delegating tasks 

I am not adaptable 

Areas of Improvement 

Being a perfectionist, I tend to believe that I am the only best suited person for some tasks. However, I need to delegate more. 

I need stop micromanaging my followers and give them more autonomy to enhance their independence and to let them grow 

Being a perfectionist prevents me from being flexible and thinking on my feet especially when a problem requires a quick solution. I therefore believe that I should consult more to ensure my decisions are workable as well as acceptable
