Online dating has been portrayed in the Black Mirror world as a regulated process. This is evident in the relationship between Frank and Amy who after having been matched together realize that they love each other. They have a perfect date, but unfortunately, the system gives their relationship a quick expiration date ( Hang the DJ Black Mirror , 2018). Even though they try to reunite, the system works against them makes it difficult for them to reunite. This shows how online dating is a regulated process that is controlled by the system and the individual partners have a minimal influence on the system and how it works.

In the online dating, data collection and accuracy can be preferred over the personal impression of others. This can be seen when Frank and Amy get accurately matched by a compatibility algorithm known as the system, and they get to love each other after their date ( VanArendonk, 2018 ). Online dating involves self-presentation where people present themselves as attractive as possible and ensure that they have an accurate presentation. The presentation is, however, a lie in most cases as what people present in the online dating sites comes to be different from the reality. This is done to create a good impression on the other partner. Accurate compatibility match through data collection can, therefore, be given priority due to the correct match it provides.

The uncertainty of the relationships exists due to the regulations of the system. While Frank and Amy find out that they are a perfect match, the system has set a quick expiry date thus raising fear of loneliness and uncertainty of love after the end of the expiration date. However, the two realize that the system and the dating site cannot help them keep their relationship. This makes them escape so that they can remove the certainty in their perfect love.
