Myer Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a self-report inventory that helps in the identification of one’s strengths, personality type, and preferences. MBTI bases its findings on personality type theory by Carl Jung, which highlights the existence of 16 personality types. The inventory is based on four scales: Sensing (S)-Intuition (N), Extraversion (E)-Introversion (I), Judging (J)-Perceiving (P), and Thinking (T)-Feeling (F). These four scales then give rise to personality types that combine any of the four initials of the scales, which are S, N, E, T, F, J, P, and I. In such a case, one would be classified as having ISTP, ESFP, ISFJ, INTJ, and any other combination depending on one’s MBTI’s score. I took part in the assessment and the results show that my personality type is ISFJ.

Discussion of the ISFJ Personality Type

The ISFJ personality score indicates that I am aligned to Introvert (73%), Sensing (6%), Feeling (3%), and Judging (38%). This personality type is associated with being kind, considerate, and having a strong sense of commitment to others. ISFJ individuals are very patient and are willing to use their experience and common sense to solve the problem of others. They also have a sense of belonging and enjoy working with people who support and value their contribution. In as much as they possess all strengths, these individuals are not assertive meaning that they may focus more on pleasing others (The Myer & Briggs Foundation, 2020). Additionally, these individuals are not capable of handling extreme stress since they shut down, think the worst, and blame others for their misfortune.

Reasons for Agreeing or Disagreeing with the Findings

These findings are highly relatable especially in the area that focuses on these personality types’ strengths. The MBTI establishes that individuals with ISFJ personality are kind and considerate and I agree with this statement. I try as much as possible to put the needs of others first even if it means that I have to give up on my happiness. The reason I consider the needs of others is the fact that I believe that if others are happy and satisfied they will allow me to be happy as well. I also agree that ISFJ personality type individuals enjoy working with people who support and value their input. This statement would apply for every personality type since no one would want to work with people who disregard them. While I agree with most of these findings, I feel that a high score on Introvert and Judging is not definitive enough since I consider myself more outgoing and agreeable. I feel that I am more of an extrovert since I love being around people and I enjoy working in projects that involve more people as opposed to solitary activities. Additionally, I consider myself a perceiver focusing on new possibilities in and leaving my options open as opposed to moving on without resolving issues.

Explanation of the Differences Using an MBTI Dimension

Individuals who use the MBTI inventory to understand their personalities may not agree with the findings since they may have their interpretations. Working with individuals with different opinions could be frustrating but an MBTI dimension could help them to accept people with different personalities. The dimension outlines how people are energized and classifies them as either introverts or extroverts (E vs. I). Extroverts are outgoing, spontaneous, and love working with people while introverts are reserved and prefer to work on solitary projects. The dimension also focuses on how people take on information and classifies them into sensing and intuition (S vs. N). Sensors rely on facts as opposed to intuition while intuitive rely on logic, principles, and hunches that point to possibilities (The Myer & Briggs Foundation, 2020). The dimension further categorizes people based on the decision-making process, which brings out thinking vs. feeling (T vs. F). Thinkers use verifiable experience and logic while feelers rely on emotions and believe that thinkers are inhuman and cold. Lastly, the dimension cauterizes people based on the ease of making decisions bringing out judging and perceiving (J vs. P). Judgers make decisions and move on quickly while perceivers take time to move on since they envision new possibilities (The Myer & Briggs Foundation, 2020). These highlights by the MBTI dimension would help individuals to accept differences as well as their personality test scores.
