The Current United States Police Roles, Their Changes, and How They Have Changed

The United States police play a wide range of roles in law enforcement process, such as arresting criminals and arraigning them before the court of law, performing various patrols, securing public gathering, and carrying out various criminal investigations (Worall, 2018, 7). However, these roles can be summed up to come with the major role of the United States police. Thus, the major function of the United States police is to promote public safety and uphold the rule of law for the purpose of ensuring that the individual’s liberty prevails (Mosteller, 2019). The U.S police have undergone a vital change in leadership transition that has seen the educated millennial take over the law enforcement role (Worall, 2018, 1). This has minimized police cruelty to the public; hence the public now perceive police on the positive side. The U.S police has also diploid the use of technology to enhance the law enforcement role more efficiently and effectively than ever.

The Police Role That Might Produce Better Results and Why

The police role that might produce the best results is the police acting as guardians and protectors of all people, as well as upholding the rights of all people (Roufa, 2019). This is because the police in this way treat the society with respect and dignity thus earns substantial respect from the citizens. The mutual respect between the police and the society makes the society cooperate with the police in identification and arresting of the law breakers thus increasing the efficiency of the police in law enforcement. Even the criminals will hold the police with high regards, thus decreases the harm caused by the police and the criminals during their chase operations.
