With a score of 35, the proactivity assessment revealed that I had many of the characteristics of proactive people. As a health care practitioner, my proactivity score tells me that I always look ahead, open to new solutions, and persistent when none are present. It also reveals that I always see opportunities where others see problems. This implies that as a leader, I always look for ways to develop myself and others, and bring them forward. On the other hand, my perception of locus of control might impact my leadership role in public health by helping me view health from three perspectives, internal factors, powerful others, and luck ( Güzel et al., 2019; Garcia-Alcaraz et al., 2020) .
From the results of the Locus of Control assessment, I gained the following insights. First, I understood that different patients believe in other things, and this might not only affect how I address their issues but also their treatment. For instance, for patients with an internal locus of control, my role as a public health leader will drive me to recommend interventions that are self-determined. For instance, it would be ineffective to recommend that such a patient sees a physical therapist for a condition when a strict exercise regiment would do with conditional follow-ups.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
The second insight I gained is that patients might not always follow the advice of their physicians. This is not a new discovery in health care, but to me, it goes deeper as some patients might not follow recommended treatments because they believe they are lucky. This is important because, as a public health leader, it made me realize that I would have to buy into these beliefs, even temporarily, just to gain the patient’s trust and become a credible source of advice.
