A key competency that I developed in researching and writing the comprehensive project is the proper analysis of information sources. I came across numerous sources addressing the topic regarding the 2002 Sarbanes–Oxley Act. In undertaking the project, I learned how to analyze every source and their content. I also learned to synthesize the content and evaluate it to determine whether it contained relevant information to complete my paper. I was also able to differentiate between credible sources and those that contained false information.

The brainstorming of original ideas is another vital competency that I gained from completing the project. In researching and writing the project, I knew that I needed to submit an authentic paper to receive a positive grade. As a result, I improved my level of brainstorming by devising original ideas regarding the purpose and titles of the 2002 Sarbanes–Oxley Act. This process allowed me to generate an original research paper written from scratch. Notably, I avoided plagiarism, a highly serious offense that could have negatively impacted my reputation as a researcher.
Proper formatting is another core competency I was able to develop after completing my project. I learned how to format my paper in line with APA 7 writing requirements. I was able to improve the organization of my paragraphs and transitions.
