It should be acknowledged that in the recent past, there has been a significant increase in the registration of drones and the subsequent effect on the National Air Space. It is for this reason that there have been multiple reports of unmanned aircraft drone sightings from the pilots, thus necessitating the need for vigilance among the law enforcement agencies and the citizens in the past few years. However, the proliferation of technology implies that drones are now being perceived to be more than tools utilized in trade and commerce (Irizarry, Gheisari& Walker, 2012, p. 194). This is attributed to their diversified use in various disciplines for the purpose of saving lives, monitoring and detecting dangerous situations as well as facilitating the recovery efforts during calamities. Despite this, it is important to note that there have been various challenges that have been outlined by the National Air Space (NAS) with regard to the acceptance of drones. Creation of the appropriate steps for the facilitation of the integration and testing of drone technology in the airspace is the primary challenge that the National Air Space has been grappling with. According to FAA, an approximated 100 reports are launched monthly highlighting various instances where safety has been violated by the drones being operated by various entities. It is for this reason that FAA has deemed it appropriate to create awareness and educate the public that the operation of drones, irrespective of their use, around helicopters, airplanes and the environment around airports is in gross violation of its safety measures. As a result, the use and operation of drones in the outlined environments have been termed illegal and dangerous by the FAA. Despite such approaches that have been undertaken for the purpose of securing airspace safety, concerns have been expressed about the hobbyists who usually use drones for their leisure activities (Vergouw, Nagel, Bondt&Custers, 2016, p. 21). This is a major concern, especially considering that such hobbyists are usually not registered, thus allaying fears on how they can be monitored in the bid to guarantee airspace safety. In this regard, an appropriate approach will be to establish the numbers of such hobbyists and then tracking them down with the help of systems put in place for guaranteeing airspace safety.

Literature Review

Based on the argument outlined by Boyle (2013, p. 29), it has been asserted that there are various approaches that can be undertaken to help in the demonstration of how drones can be integrated into various aspects of life for the improvement of their efficiency, safety, and reliability. It is for this reason that the author in the conducted study has expansively described the increasing instances of the accident involving the drones. On this basis, the author has further gone ahead to outline appropriate measures that can be undertaken and put in place to help in the elimination of such accidents involving drones (Vergouw, Nagel, Bondt&Custers, 2016, p. 21). Therefore, such discussions have emphatically outlined the need for appropriate safety measures to be put in place, especially considering that there has been a significant increase in the number of drones being operated by various entities. Furthermore, it is important to note that the articles that have been considered for this research study provide extensive insights on multiple aspects concerning the integration of drones in the airspace and the differences that may arise in terms of the drone accidents caused by the untrained drone pilots and the trained drone pilots. In particular, such an approach will help in providing a concrete framework in the examination of the appropriate security measures that can be put in place to prevent the frequency of such incidents from happening.

In this context, it should be acknowledged that the National Airspace System (NAS) usually has the mandate of providing reliable as well as safe air transportation along non-continuous and continuous waters and territories in the United States. This has been adopted as a crucial measure aimed at enhancing the safety of the airspace and prevent the likelihood of air accidents from occurring. Given the strict regulations that have been outlined by the National Airspace System aimed at creating order and organization, the United States Airspace is one of the safest one across the globe. As a result of such measures put in place, the National Airspace System has developed the credence and the capability to handle many international and domestic flights. However, following the proliferation of technology and the systematic introduction of drones, the National Airspace System has been faced with the key challenge of incorporating their routine operations in the airspace while at the same time guaranteeing safety. In this regard, Goodchild& Toy (2018, p.58) argues that the introduction and proliferation of drone technology have presented both the benefits and the risks in the airspaces. In this case, the author states that the adoption of drone technology has been utilized as a platform necessary for the accomplishment of various tasks. In particular, the author highlights that the drones are now being utilized in the performance of tasks such as aerial surveys, crop dusting, border control, and firefighting during calamities.

This clearly demonstrates that drone technology has emerged as a way of solving various contemporary problems cutting across various spheres. Despite such massive adoption and implementation of the drone technology, it has also been outlined that the drones do not have the requisite ability to seeing obstacles. Furthermore, their successful adoption and implementation in the performance of various core processes require the need of an alternative safety system to be put in place (Vergouw, Nagel, Bondt&Custers, 2016, p. 29). Therefore, this means that the National Airspace System will have to incur additional logistical expenses in the bid to develop and successfully run an alternative safety system aimed at ensuring that the massive use of drone technology will be free from accidents. Nonetheless, another concern attributed to drone technology is that their frequency spectrum can easily be consumed by other users, thus compromising the security of the whole exercise.

In his article, Boyle, Horowitz, Kreps &Fuhrmann (2018, p. 56) has expansively discussed and analyzed various contexts concerning the use of drone technology. In this regard, the author has also carried out a comparison aimed at depicting the existing contracts in the rules governing the low-altitude airspace that is usually dominated by the drones and the high-altitude airspace that is majorly dominated by the domestic and international flights. Based on the presented discussions, it is evident that there are various conflicts that can be attributed to the use of drone technologies. In this regard, the author has argued to the extent of quoting various damages that are usually caused by the drones (Vergouw, Nagel, Bondt&Custers, 2016, p. 23). However, it has been acknowledged that proper training of pilots can help reduce the prevalence of such accidents. Furthermore, it has also been stated that there is an urgent need for appropriate steps to be put in place for the purpose of making the National Airspace System safe for the unmanned and the manned aircraft.

Research Methods

The primary intention of the research is to investigate the impact of the tremendous growth that has been witnessed in terms of the registration of drones on the National Airspace. This is attributed to the fact that in the previous instances, there have been instances where the past integration mistakes have been recorded, thus providing the basis where valuable lessons can be derived for the purpose of preventing similar mistakes in future (Smith, 2015, p. 56). However, it should be acknowledged that such incidents have had an impact of dragging the pace of the United States with regard to the adoption of the innovative drone technology in its operations in various spheres. On an additional note, the author states that there have been multiple reports of the unmanned aircraft drone sightings, especially from the citizens, pilots, and law enforcement agencies. In particular, this phenomenon has significantly increased in the recent past due to the proliferation of drone technology. Despite all these assertions, it should be acknowledged that the drones are now being used for key operations and functions such as monitoring and detecting dangerous situations, saving lives and assisting in the recovery efforts, especially during calamities. Despite such crucial uses, it should also be noted that the use of drones has also been characterized by multiple challenges. Therefore, such identified challenges have been the key consideration of the National Airspace System with the aim of finding their amicable solutions before the drone technology can be accepted fully. One of the primaries that are being addressed is the creation of necessary steps for enabling safe integration and testing of the drone technology in the American airspace (Vergouw, Nagel, Bondt&Custers, 2016, p. 21). Given that FAA has experienced incidents and accidents in data systems stretching all the way from 1978, such data can help in the visualization of the correlations and fluctuations attributed to the integration of drones in the National Airspace System. In such cases, the acquired data can entail the frequency data outlining the recorded flight phase. It is for this reason that the selected research topic, in this case, will be a significant increase in drone registration and the subsequent effect on NAS. Therefore, the research will be keen to establish whether accidents can be decreased by the implementation of key universal safety standards.

Hypothesis

The number of collations between manned and unmanned aircraft can be decreased by training commercial drone pilots.

Variables

Independent variables : Number of certified drone pilots.

Dependent Variables : Number of accidents involving aircraft.

It should be noted that Mann-Whitney U-test will be used in the evaluation of the medians to establish how non-trained and the trained drone pilot differ. In this case, each group will be assigned two separate variables that will be divided for the better comprehension of the test. Collected data in terms of charts can be illustrated as follows;
