Sexuality has been a significant topic of discussion over the years, with the LGBT community facing myriad challenges. Sexual orientation and people’s response to sexuality have changed significantly. In the past years, lesbians, homosexuals and other sexual minority groups were discriminated. Although there is still discrimination today, there are fewer instances of discrimination and action of communities against these minority groups. The media has been covering sexuality to help communicate and deliver a message to the community. Two of the films focusing on sexual orientation include Social Science in America’s Bedroom by Alfred Kinsey and Paris is Burning by Silvio Zucco.
T here was a significant impact of covering sexuality in the way society today responds to the LGBT community. After Kinsley talked about the sexual behaviour of males and females in his books, it triggered people’s ability to talk about things they did not talk about before openly. The rate of homosexuality was significantly higher than what people thought, although it was done behind closed doors. The main reason that people hid their sexual orientation from the community is due to fear of rejection and discrimination. Also, there was a held belief that homosexuality is evil. It is evident from the film, Social Science in America’s Bedroom that authors had a vital role to play in the increased acceptance of the LGBT community.

Although this pandemic affected a large number of people in the US after its outbreak, most people concentrated on its impact on the LGBT community. Most affected LGBT individuals faced much rejection from their families and were blamed for the high spread of HIV through sexual contact. However, misconduct among young people, whether in the LGBT community or not led to the spread of the HIV/AIDS disease. Some of the individuals who were impacted by HIV/AiDs included Angie X’travaganza. She died three years after the film was produced, after developing a liver disease which was caused by HIV.
These films present the issues faced by sexual minority groups between 1900-2000. During this period, it was challenging for people to come out about their sexual orientation. The vast knowledge from these films helped me gain a better understanding of the issues and struggles faced by the LGBT community. The role of film producers, researchers, scientists in the knowledge gained and awareness of LGBT is evident through these films. Also, fashion had a huge role in helping people to talk about sexuality.
These films are essential in that they can help people understand the impact of prejudice and discrimination on the LGBT community.
