The selection of Qatar by FIFA as the most preferred hosting country for the 2022 World Cup has been a subject of heated debate among the lovers of football. The contested debate has brought rifts and tensions that have divided soccer fanatics into two, those opposing FIFA’S move and those endorsing Qatar as a suitable host. Though it is a dangerous move that allows Qatar to host the World Cup because of the searing the region experiences, fewer accommodation rooms and hotels, and a hostile cultural environment, there is a brighter for her to host the event. Being the first Arab state to host the World Cup, FIFA's move to select the country will promote not only football but also globalization. Qatar should, therefore, host the 2022 World Cup because globalization will open the high-risk Arab peninsula to the rest of the world for trade, cultural change, and fostering economic cooperation and competition, thus encouraging development.

Opening the Arab Region for Trade

Globalization has reduced the world into a "global village” by collapsing time and distance ( Kinincki & Williams, 2020). Hosting the World Cup in the Arabian country is a vital step towards ensuring that the world becomes one big market. With a population of about two million people, Qatar serves as a viable market for exporters in countries such as the United States, the third-largest exporter in the world. Interaction of Qatar nationals with people from various parts of the world attending the World Cup will help reduce the tensions between the West and the East. Thus, Qatar and neighboring nations such as Kuwait, Bahrain, and UAE will benefit from the arrival of international investors willing to do business with the countries.

Fosters Economic Cooperation and Competition

Another bright side of globalization is that it fosters competition between firms, which in turn leads to the production of high quality and cheap products. Most economies in the world are suffering because of the continually increasing cost of production brought about by high prices of fuel. Qatar has vast reservoirs of oil deposits that are yet to be fully tapped. Qatar has become the wealthiest country in the world in terms of income per capita because of its oil money. However, Qatar did not manage to become the most affluent country all by herself; other countries were involved. Corporations should take the hosting of the World Cup in the tiny Arabic nation as an opportunity to negotiate oil deals or create megamergers or mini-firms operating worldwide.

Cultural Change

Selecting Qatar to host the international tournament is the hallmark of civilization. The World Cup tournament will act as a spotlight for the Qatari government to improve its miserable standards for laborers, who are mostly immigrants. The spotlight is also expected to spark long-lasting change in the region known as terrorist sympathizers. Positive interaction between the Westerners and the Middle East will increase the tendency of world economies to interact with one another as one market rather than many national ones. The development of a global economy will lead to an influx of electronic information and worldwide computer-linked networks, thereby making it easy for people to buy and sell products globally via computer networks ( Kinincki & Williams, 2020).

Hosting the World Cup in Qatar will also offer an opportunity for individuals hoping to advance their careers by working overseas. A recent research study shows that about 70% of millennials have a desire to work abroad ( Kinincki & Williams, 2020). The international tournament will push the Qatari government to improve the working conditions of immigrants and also relax some of the punitive labor laws to accommodate foreigners. Qatar is one of the best places for foreigners who want to get the edge of the global job market because employers pay their workers handsomely and competitively.

Conclusion

Although people accuse Qatar of bribing senior FIFA officials to deliver a winning vote for the country to host the 2022 World Cup, the corruption scandal is yet to be confirmed. Through its official website, FIFA posted that it was unable to uncover evidence of bribery and misconduct, thereby making it difficult to cancel Qatar’s winning bid to host the prestigious tournament. The allegations should stop, and people should move on and accept that Qatar fairly won the bid to host the event after four rounds of knockout voting by FIFA's executive committee. Also, allowing Qatar to host the World Cup presents a lot of cultural, economic, and global advantages.
