Yang et al. (2014) conducted research on Taiwan women to investigate factors that prevented them from accessing healthcare. The research was conducted at Kaohsiung Medical University where more than 80 women participated in the research . The researchers employed a snowball sampling technique, which is also referred to as simple sampling technique. They used this method so that that they could have time to prepare participants for the questions they would expect during the data collection. The sampling technique involved arranging participants in groups and preparing them for the research questions based on three cycles which included planning cycles, active cycles, and reviewing cycles .
This type of sampling technique has advantages and disadvantages. Advantages include the lack of bias in sampling, such that each individual creates a balanced subset that carries the greatest potential of being a representative of the larger population. another advantage is that it is effective in the sense that participants are well prepared to answer the research questions. In this case, the Taiwan women knew the question they would be asked and were even willing to participant in the research process.

There are, however, some disadvantages that are associated with the simple sampling method. For instance, researchers are forced to get a full list of a larger population and conduct individual sampling in order to create a group of participants that will be representative of the larger population . As such, this type of sampling is time consuming and costly. The Taiwan study participants were organized in subsets which took a long time before researchers collected data.
Although this method prepares participants on what they expect in research, there is a greater risk of collecting biased information. This sampling technique is time and energy consuming since researchers must orient study participants before the actual day of research arrives.
