Humans as social beings are staying connected through social media and other communication channels. Smartphone manufacturers are increasingly releasing numerous devices and offering competitive prices to attract the ever-increasing demand especially in developing countries that have a high vibrant youth population. The power of the internet through social media can be harnessed to produce fruitful results such as crowdfunding for a noble course.

Mobile devices contain GPS a tool used in determining the specific location of a user by manipulation of the geographical coordinates. Criminals can then be tracked down and apprehended. Police departments can use social media platforms to create awareness to the public on security precautions. Furthermore, the police can gauge the public’s trust in the police through analysis of data regarding police. The use of hashtags has been customarily used on Twitter to seek justice. For example, George Floyd’s murder caught on camera drove Black Lives Matter movement.

Some tools enable a user to edit video footage or image to suit their needs and propagate a misrepresentation of information that can delude many people. Technological expert intervention is needed to verify the credibility of information shared on the internet. Radio and print media had been the main channels to steer the Civil Rights Movement. Currently, smartphones are readily available, and social media platforms have influencers who have a vast following with the capability of promoting a subject by use of hashtags or sharing to users. The originators of ideas are sometimes not fully known but the popular person can be perceived as the brainchild of a movement.
