Everybody needs a factor that powers them to achieve their goals and success. In my case, my step-father has been my coach, especially after my divorce. My step-father has always been objective, calm, and his coaching has enabled me to become who I am today. He has been i important in enabling me achieve my life goals by guiding me through the process of self-improvement. He has enabled me to achieve stability for my boys and in the quest to achieve my life goals particularly following a nasty divorce.
My step-father has demonstrated to me that the process of coaching is a five-step process that places focus on improving performance. The first step is analysis. My step-father helped me to identify my performance gaps; this was important in identifying my weaknesses (Mohan, 2018). Pointing my weaknesses illuminated the way I could be strong for my boys after the divorce. Second is preparation. This entailed planning the coaching session and coming up with solutions to potential objections that I would have towards my step-father’s role ( Kalkavan & Katrinli, 2014) . This was followed by the actual session where my step-father engaged me. The session is a two-way communication process that needs both the coach and trainee to be fully motivated and dedicated ( Delmondes & Afonso, 2018) . The fourth step was setting measurable goals and documenting my progress after the coaching sessions begin. The last step was follow-up since coaching is a continuous process. This has enabled me to be a pillar in my boys’ life even after a devastating divorce.
