David Autor believes that in spite of the challenges presented by automation in the labor market, jobs will always be plenty. He bases his argument on two principles which he calls human insatiability and creativity/genius. According to him, technology invention is one of the factors that have contributed to plenty of jobs despite automation. Technology has magnified leverage thus increasing the need for added value expertise human judgment, and creativity. David Autor further argues that the desire to have more and never satisfied has caused more jobs in the market despite automation. He supports his argument with an example of bank tellers whose umbers doubled after the introduction of automated teller machines. This according to him was caused by a desire to open more banks hence more tellers employed. He therefore believes that as a result of the two factors, there are many jobs and jobs will always be there ( Ted, 2017).

In my view, I believe automation will both reduce job opportunities and a shift to different types of jobs. Most of the tasks done by human beings will be done by machines as technology advances. As a result job opportunities will be fewer since machines will be able to handle multiple tasks in a quick and cheap way. They will outdo human beings. However, there are jobs that are just best fit for human beings and may not be replaced by machines. This will make people look for and acquire skills for the irreplaceable jobs. In addition, just like in the case of tellers as explained by David Autor . The few who will be lucky to find employment will have their jobs redefined and tasks added with the aim of adding value. Competition between companies/firms is constantly increasing and the desire to make more profits has grown. As a result, investors will prefer using cheaper, efficient, ad effective methods such as automation in order to improve their profit margins ( Ted, 2017).
