In 1975 Microsoft Corporation was incorporated, and it was one of the oldest software development companies. Microsoft did not go public until 1986 where it offered its initial public offering at $21 (Greenstein, 2008) . Before Microsoft went public, it was under Bill Gates's leadership, who owned 45 percent of the company. He was motivated to be the leading producer of personal computer software around the globe. Therefore, he recruited the best programmers to bring onboard their ingenuity towards improving Microsoft's products and services. Gates was not enticed by capital venture investors but promoted high-quality and innovative products to its consumers.

Every home should have a computer. This was the vision that Bill Gates and Paul Allen had when they were developing Microsoft. The goal seemed unattainable, considering the uncertainties that existed around technology at that time. However, they worked towards their goals with the development of Windows that had a graphical user interface. This necessity came as a counter competition to Apple that had launched its GUI Macintosh in 1984. Bill Gates envisioned a dominance in computing technology, and he did everything in his power to retain Microsoft's market share (Schwarzenegger, 2020) . For instance, he encouraged software

developers to produce applications preinstalled in the personal computers they sold.

Bing, a search engine owned and run by Microsoft, is recommended for all ages as it censors gruesome content suitable for all ages. However, there have been allegations of spying by Microsoft products and services such as recordings by virtual assistance such as Cortana and Skype of individuals' data. This is considered a massive privacy breach to its customers. Data collection from users is mainly conducted to categorize users' online behavior (Kshetri , 2014) . Specifically, to build better artificial intelligent agents and marketing purposes by sharing user information with third-party corporations.

The world moves towards a more data-centered approach with the increase in processing speeds and demand for more data storage. Bill Gates emphasized building consumers' trust through their interaction with Microsoft's products. Trust is only attainable by revamping security on Microsoft's products and services as threats are continuously increasing (Allhoff & Henschke, 2018) . Technological corporations ought to educate users on how to interact with services to ensure their data is not misused. Additionally, Gates states that all tech companies' collective responsibility is to increase consumers' trust by being transparent on how information is stored, manipulated, and shared.

Corporations are increasingly deploying data analysis to acquire insights on the best business strategy. Best use of consumer data without data breaches is essential for companies to avoid legal implications. Moreover, to retain customer loyalty, companies that engage consumers online should maintain transparency on the use of consumer data (Bel, 2010) . Companies use data to provide a better user experience for the consumer. Consumers must be aware of this to determine the type of data remitted for they know the possible use and distribution.

The technological arena is a highly competitive industry that has bludgeoned over the recent decades. It is fraught with many concerns, primarily revolving around big data—a growing ethical problem among internet users. Campaigns are ongoing against specific related application software and services on unethical sharing and distribution of consumer data. Communication and transparency are essential in increasing consumer awareness of the use of data collected.
