The ability to lead people while changing their viewpoints and adding value to them is one of the desirable leadership values sought by those who yearn for influential leaders. President Barrack Obama is one of those leaders who has had a fair portion of shortcomings but has demonstrated that with determination, it is possible to positively influence people. Although Barrack Obama faced challenges such as a failing economy, deficit in the federal budget, and a high level of unemployment during his terms, his attributes such as resilience, collaborative skills, and ability to influence enabled him to surpass the different obstacles.
Some of the obstacles Obama faced during his two terms include economic challenges, unemployment, and budget deficit. Particularly, the economy suffered from low investment and decreased growth at the time Obama was in office. Additionally, most Americans felt like the job conditions did not improve ( Chiu, 2020). There was no significant increase in manufacturing and industrial expansion, which would have positively increase employment rates. Most importantly, most Americans felt like Obama could not balance spending, hence, the deficit in different financial years.

Obama’s determination to be America’s first president for two consecutive terms shows confidence in his ability to lead. He also tried to change the healthcare system by introducing progressive policies such as universal healthcare coverage. He also tried to revive the energy sector by investing in renewable forms of energy, for example, solar and wind energy. Most importantly, he led with dignity; hence, his administration was not found with significant scandals. Therefore, he was a good example because he cared about changing America progressively for the benefit of all, those who elected him and those who did not believe in his agendas. For me, what stood out is his self-belief and determination to lead for the second term, even though he belongs to the minority. He made history through his slogan, “yes we can.”( Elkatawneh, 2016). Without a winning spirit and self-belief, it would have been impossible to lead in the capacity he did.
In conclusion, Obama’s resilience and determination enabled him to lead Americans for two terms. Although there were economic, budget, and unemployment-related issues during his administration, it is impossible to forget his efforts in healthcare improvement and enhancement of energy infrastructure. In all this, he was a leader because he meant to serve all, regardless of their political orientation.
