Abstract

XPO Logistics, Inc is a leading international provider of the cutting-edge supply chains to most well-developed companies located in most places all over the world. The company was started on May 8, 2000, and functions in two sections, i.e., Transportation and Logistics ( Peyton & Potaniec, 2010) . The transportation sector of the company deals much on last mile, truckloads full, less-than-truckload (LTL), global forwarding services and on freight brokerage. The Logistics sector provides the distribution of goods and warehousing, some inventory and cold chain solutions. The XPO Logistics Company gives its services to more than 50,000 people and highly networked employees totaling to over 87,000 and located in more than 1,440 places in the current 33 countries in the world receiving the services. The Logistics company headquarters are found and located in Greenwich, USA, Europe in Lyon (France) and Conn ( Peyton & Potaniec, 2010) .

Introduction

The company provides services in the transportation sector to ensure proper movement of raw materials, most parts, and already manufactured goods. Back in December 2016, the company had previously owned 10,000 independent customers who operated their contracts in areas including expedite, drayage, last mile, the LTL services, and provision. Also, the company had accumulated more than 50,000 brokers who represented more than 1 million trucks working on the roads ( Ontario Securities Commission, 2015) . The company has 95,000 staff employees in 1455 locations spread across 32 countries. The same December 2016, the XPO Logistics Company had around 16,000 tractors and more than 39,500 trailers primarily in respect to the company’s LTL and full-truckload functions. Different companies all over the locations offer their loads to XPO through the telephone, e-mail, fax, internet and the electronic data communications on a daily basis. The truck brokerage services are not mostly asset-based and are catered for by the Company’s freight brokerage. In consideration of the shippers, the information about the service required by a particular company is priced under a spot market or contract basis. The company then puts together the payments from all its customers to make payments to the carriers on the stated spot market condition because of transporting the customer’s loads ( Manners-Bell, 2016) .

The services delivery

The XPO offers door-to-door services to various companies in most parts of North America. The Companies which receives these services includes the large industrial and retail shippers, intermediaries in transport and the steamship lines. The expedite services by the XPO company are mostly non-asset-based. The trucks and the equipment to transport loads are provided by independent based individuals who stand a chance to be paid by the XPO Company and give the vans and trucks ( Zhang , Li & Wang, 2010) . Also, the separate owners offer a multiple of vans and trucks which they provide to their drivers to work with them. The last mile services offered by the company are asset-light. The company also incorporates and involves the independent contractors to transport raw materials and other essential services. The Last mile transportation is performed among the last services in delivering of goods to required destinations and happens from a retail store to final consumer’s business premises or even their homes. The delivery of the raw materials to the consumers might engage many services that the XPO Company provides. The XPO Logistics Company delivers its Last mile in North America and parts of Europe and specifically deal with the transportation of furniture, massive good, e.g., appliances, goods that are larger-than-parcels and great electronics.

The intermodal services offered by the company are asset-light. Containers used in transporting materials to consumers are all provided by the company and goes per the container capacity ( Peyton & Potaniec, 2010) . The company puts into use containers that equal to 9,900 leased ones or owns 53 feet containers where the drayage transportation is done by the independent contractors and many onsite operational services. The XPO Company pays contracts with the Railway companies for it to provide transport goods at a faster speed and in large quantities to their customers ( Zhang , Li & Wang, 2010) . The transportation using rails involves the use of containers that carry a lot of loads and has long-haul divisions and deals with the shipment of freight using the containers. The company also makes contracts with trucking companies involving the transportation of the legs and the intermodal freight transportations ( Ontario Securities Commission, 2015) . The XPO Company also provides electronic tracking services that relate to the market prices analysis and decisions making on the rail, the trucks, and the rates. The tracking helps in the determination of the transportation routes ( Manners-Bell, 2016) .

Tracking services

The company has a tracking service for their goods and parcels. These tracking services are enabled by the company’s Parcel Monitor which allows their client to track all their shipment using the parcel’s tracking number ("XPO Logistics," 2018) . XPO Logistics is a global brand, with their shipping services extending to almost all the corners of the globe. Therefore, the company has a noble task in ensuring the satisfaction of their clients and one such way through which they can use is tracking their clients’ freights and giving the clients the ability to track the shipment of their parcels any time they feel like; in real time. The clients need to use the PRO number of their freight which they enter into the company’s search bar, and the tracking takes place directly in the LTL.xpo.com main page ("XPO Logistics," 2018) . A PRO Number is some nine digits which the company uses to identify the freights and the freight bills affixed to every shipment and parcel. The clients can track up to 35 parcels in transit at a time as long as the PRO numbers for each of these 35 shipments are valid. The company also has loyal clients who, upon registering in the company’s portal, receive many bonus services that other clients do not get. These include the ease of tracking their freight by use of the PRO numbers and other data ("XPO Logistics", 2018) . Such data include the Pickup request Confirmation Numbers of their freight, their customer reference numbers, the numbers of their purchases and customs bonds as well as their shipper’s numbers. It is also possible to view the information about the most recent tracking that a client has undertaken on their shipments ("XPO Logistics," 2018). 

Conclusion

The XPO Company is among the most prominent working companies that offer efficient services that are essential in consideration of the other companies present. The company earns much due to the maximum use of the contracts and support from the independent owners who transport services. The most important agreement that the company has made is having joined the railway company. This agreements and contracts help in delivering a lot of goods and raw materials to its customers. In most locations, the company offers the products to customers through the door to door services, and that ensures the maintenance of the customer. In the Logistics sector, the company deals with the provision of the distribution and the warehousing services and involves the supporting of factories, the support did aftermarket to other companies, delivery, transportation, packaging and offering the integrated manufacturing services to the customers ( Manners-Bell, 2016) . This support system has supported the well-being of the company and extensive expansion in most of the locations in the world.
