Upon watching the documentary, “All the President’s Men Revisited” various aspects of journalism and political history are unraveled. The documentary revisits the foundation of the movie All the President’s Men and the political events that lead to its making. The movie which was made based on the Watergate scandal that ultimately led to the resignation of Richard Nixon who was the 37 th president of the United States. The Watergate Scandal was the center of the downfall of the Richard Nixon’s administration as expressed in this documentary. This was as a result of two investigative journalists; Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward who followed a “Third Rate Burglary” story on the Democratic National Committee transforming it into a major conspiracy. Their works in writing and investigative journalism for the Washington post impacted the American political scene at the times significantly as the documentary puts it, which led to the imprisonment of several government officials, the firing of others and major resignations that included the then president of the United States.

From the revelations of the documentary I learned that despite the Watergate being one of the greatest political scandals in modern history, there was hope for American politics. This is because despite some of the individuals involved in the scandal having held high positions in the Richard Nixon administration they realized their mistake and some took action against it. One major figure in this aspect is Deep Throat who is later revealed to be Mark Felt. He was a major figure in revealing the illegal dealings in the White House that included; forgery of state documents and letters, wire-tapping, breaking and entering, destruction of government documents and conspiracy to obstruct justice.
The documentary also shows Republicans who were members of the President’s party at that point of realization withdraw their support for Richard Nixon which was part of the reason that he resigned according to his final speech as president of the United States. Other key members of the Nixon administration included John Dean who was the president’s council. The sobriety by various individuals within the Nixon administration in making the right choices against the violation the law that compromised the presidential office showed a glimmer of hope for American politics. It expressed the ability of people to do the right thing even against political power adversity.
