The following are possible psychological distractions that will be experienced by the audience.

Anger; students experience hard times in the learning environment, and this emotional state will affect how they will process the information. Anger will make the audience less logical and more reactive to situations surrounding them. Anger will result in negative moods, such as depression, and the listeners will end up misinterpreting the information being conveyed (Lithon & Shaw, 2011). There will be no effective communication when the listener is angry.

Pride; the audience might have their own opinions and ideas about the topic to be addressed. They hold these opinions and ideas firmly and will reject new ideas that may contradict their beliefs. They will show a lack of attention during the presentation since they have a closed mind. The listeners will have a prejudice against the speaker's information, and they will concentrate.

Anxiety; communication involves an interaction session for it to be effective. The speaker poses questions to that audience on which they might respond. Some audiences are afraid of speaking in public. The will attend the talk session but with much stress in mind. Anxiety might result in poor retention rendering the communication ineffective.

The following are strategies that I will use to minimize these possible psychological distractions.

Providing background information on the topic to be addressed; I will avail relevant information on the topic to students before the exact day. This will convince the students to attend the talk to have vast knowledge on the topic. The student may research the topic and attend the talk prepared fully to answer any questions.

Give the audience enough time to prepare; giving students plenty of time to prepare will enable them to get rid of possible psychological distractions like anxiety and anger. They will attend in the right mood to ensure the success of communication.

Accommodating the listener’s ideas; though the listeners might have conflicting opinions about the topic, I will to accept their ideas and clarify to them where possible. This will encourage them to part of the communication.
