The commander’s intent is the term that is used in the military context to define the various efforts that are put in place to achieve success during an operation. Both commanders and their staffs put the utmost effort and employ multiple tools to ensure mission success and to develop the component of the commander’s intent. There are various tools that army commanders and their subjects use to familiarize better with the environments of their mission. In addition to that, these tools help visualize and expound on the various approach that can be possibly used to conduct an operation. These tools are vital in ensuring the success of missions and subsequently promote the commander’s intent.

End of state conditions is one such tool, and it defines the upcoming conditions desired by the commander upon the end of the mission. Commanders incorporate end state in their mission plans for the sake of guidance. If end state conditions are well articulated, they help promote unity, facilitate integration, and enhance effort applied by troops (Hrnčiar, 2019). This happens since the end state conditions motivate the army members. Another critical tool is the power that supplies army members’ physical strength and morale to complete missions. This force is referred to as  the center of gravity.  This force is also important and is used for planning the mission and operations.

Commanders and their members also have decisive points necessary for promoting the component of the commander’s intent. Decisive points may refer to physical geographical locations, key factors, or specific important events that commanders must act upon to enable the team to gain a certain advantage over the mission (Hrnčiar, 2019). Decisive points are important because they lead commanders and their members in making realistic plans. The other important key factor is tempo. Tempo refers to the speed of military action. A commander has to constantly keep the tempo in check to ensure the operation is constantly in check.
