Successful healthcare delivery in any functional medical institution is only possible if such a facility has a qualified and proficient health service manager. The health care industry is susceptible to ever-changing laws and policies, which at times pose a challenge to health service providers- nurses and doctors- to perform their jobs efficiently and effectively. The organizational, financial, legal expertise and the understanding of the complexity of the insurance landscape by a health service manager is, therefore, essential in clearing the way for health care providers to serve patients efficiently. However, to ensure the smooth running and administration of effective and efficient healthcare is only possible when health service managers define and recalibrate their expectations and become interested in others

Defining and recalibrating expectations is crucial as it enables a health service manager to have a clear vision. A health service manager can accomplish the set vision by aligning himself/herself with people who own their piece of the vision. It is therefore pivotal for the health service manager to hire people of a higher track record of performance, train them for confidence, and reward them to ensure that they take risks to attain better results (White & Lindsey, n.d.). Research findings have established that a health service manager who is passive about his/her expectations as a higher potential of achieving rapid success. The power of positive thinking ingrained in a person sets the difference between successful and unsuccessful leaders (White & Lindsey, n.d.). Success is not easy as it requires both hard work and patience. In some instances, a health service manager might realize that the set expectorations are slipping and experiencing a drop in standards. In such a scenario, he/she should reestablish the initial set goals and redesign the vision to stop the slide. Besides offering their best in their line of work, health service managers should continuously ask themselves questions, such as who will be my best allies? How can I positively affect outcomes?

Health service management should also seek out the advice of successful mentors who will guide and model their behaviour and strategies. One primary role of health care managers include driving innovation, oversee work schedules, supplies, and budgets in the medical system (Weller, Boyd, & Cumin, 2014). Successful accomplishment of such a task is possible if a manager aligns care management services with the needs of the population. Tailoring the expectations with input from patients is beneficial in facilitating care coordination, effective communication, and meet the specific needs of patients (Mosadeghrad, 2014). Being interested in others and creating a meaningful relationship in the work environment is one of the ingredients of success for a health care executive. A health care service manager that maintains a meaningful and collaborative relationship with employees working under him/her will have the ability to motivate and organize workers to accomplish organization objective (Shanks, 2016). Collaboration in the work environment will also enable a health care executive to implement interpersonal team-based approaches to better health care delivery. Shanks (2016) also discuss that a health service manager will, therefore, be in a better position to identify the skills and appropriate training needed by healthcare providers

To successfully implement a health care strategy that will positively revolutionize the delivery of health care. Such a plan will require a change in the organizational culture, which is, at times, challenging because organization members often resist change. Doctors, nurses, and patient advocates can have different personal interests which do not align with the strategy a healthcare executive would wish to implement. Therefore, taking a keen interest in the needs of these diverse groups will bring coordination and ensure that all stakeholders in the health care system focus on a common goal (Mosadeghrad, 2014). Coordination and cooperation will only be possible if a health service shows a passionate sincere in the interest of others either by enquiring about their career trajectories or the nature of their job.
