Nutritional interventions specify the adoption of targeted dietary regimes tailored to achieve a patient's health needs. Meal plans are an essential component in addressing the progress of the health of a chronically ill client. If a patient with chronic disease maintains a poor diet regime, they risk disability once the ailment advances. Failure to adhere to set dietary advice can also lead to fatality. On a positive note, the introduction of dietary advice at the onset of a chronic disease's symptoms can protect the client from acquiring chronic disease in the first place. To achieve positive outcomes in the health of chronically ill patients, it is crucial to exam the various studies that focus on interventions that enhance adherence to dietary advice as a measure to prevent and manage chronic health conditions.

The study by Desroches and others used randomized controlled trials to identify thirty-eight studies used in their research to determine adherence of clients to dietary advice (2013).

Article findings

The study conducted by Desroches mainly focuses on behavioral change, reminders, individual and group sessions, and restrictions as interventions that would prompt chronic disease patients to observe dietary advice (2013). The research used a sizeable sample size of approximately nine thousand five hundred participants to determine if the introduction of interventions promotes better devotion to dietary advice (Desroches, 2013). The study's findings determined that there was an insignificant variance in patients who received proposed interventions and those who did not, in relation to their commitment to dietary advice (Desroches, 2013). The Desroches is suitable because it used selected trials whose primary outcome was the patient's adherence to advice.

Evidence for practice

The Desroches research showed a slight improvement in patients' devotion to dietary advice when introduced to the various intervention components (2013). A case in point is when a variety of reminders where introduced to the patients to encourage them to adhere to dietary advice. It was observed that the clients responded to at least one of these interventions (Desroches, 2013). The investigation also established other fundamental issues that determined a client's ability to commit to the meal plan advice. The fundamental issues included the patient's gender, understanding of the disease, the complexity of the treatment plan, ethnicity, and client's social and economic status (Desroches, 2013).

The Desroches study is bound to improve the healthcare practice by pointing out gaps in intervention modalities, providing alternative best practices, and identifying areas that need further investigations to provide the clients with the best intervention to improve their adherence to dietary advice (2013). Unfortunately, the Desroches research was inconclusive because it was conducted for a short period making it difficult to determine if patients would receive adherence advice in the long term (2013). Further, the investigation applied diverse techniques instead of a standard one, making it difficult to compare results (Desroches, 2013). Because of the poor outcome, the Desroches research report cannot be adopted into practice in its current form.

Information Sharing

I would share the outcome of the Desroches evidence-based study with my peers in the nursing profession. The best way to communicate this information would be through the use of fliers. To produce the fliers, I would need to hire a designer to create a coherent and attractive leaflet. The fliers would be distributed online using soft copies and face to face using hard copies. Some of the fliers will be disturbed online through email at no extra cost. The leaflets that will be printed out would cost about fifty cents per print. The information would help the nursing fraternity to adopted best practice modalities in providing intervention to enhance adherence of patients to dietary advice.

A critical interrogation of the available research results on interventions that improve commitment to dietary advice in chronically ill patients is key in improving the outcomes of the client's devotion to dietary advice. Meal plans are a vital component in the management of chronically ill patients. The available evidence-based research reports point to health practice in the right direction on the type of interventions that promote better patient adherence to dietary advice. Based on the outcomes of the evidence-based studies, the healthcare practice is in a position to identify the best practice approach for each individual chronically ill client.
