Factors Bearing on the Problem

The first and perhaps the most significant factor bearing on the problem of racism within the police force is de facto institutionalized racism in the entire criminal law department (Gove, 2016). The fact that more colored people are convicted and incarcerated despite equal racial crime propensity misrepresents colored people as potential criminals (Gove, 2016).

The second factor contributing to police racism is insufficient police training regarding racial bias and discrimination (Chappell, 2008). The society has been proven to be extremely racial bias, which creates the need to sensitize the section of society that joins law enforcement (Chappell, 2008).

The third factor bearing on the issues of racism among law enforcement is lack of diversity within the police force. Racism is mainly empirically developed and working with several colleagues of color would help unlearn it.

The fourth factor influencing racism among police officers is lack of adherence to the dictates of community policing (Gove, 2016). Research has shown that the community-policing programme exponentially reduces racial bias in the police force (Gove, 2016).

The fifth factor bearing on racial bias in law enforcement is poor relevant direct and supervisory policy in the police force (Fridell & Lim, 2016) (Gove, 2016). When an act of racial bias is seemingly condoned or lightly punished, this works as official encouragement for racial bias (Fridell & Lim, 2016).

The Sixth factor bearing on racism in the police force is insufficient background checks during hiring (Ben-Porath et al., 2016). I psychologically unsuited candidate cannot reform despite all training and policy regimens (Ben-Porath et al., 2016).

It is assumed that racism and racist tendencies creating bias against colored communities is not directly groomed in the police department. It is only a reflection of the general racial bias in the society premised on presuppositions and institutional racism. Therefore, steps to curb external racist effects will by external lessen racist bias in the police force.
