Recruitment and retention of manpower is a process that the Human Resource Manager of an organization is entitled to performing. The whole process involves nine major stages. These steps include; identifying a vacancy and evaluating the need for hiring new staff, developing a position description, developing a recruitment plan, select a search committee, post position and implement the recruitment plan, review applicants and shortlist them, conduct interviews, select hire and lastly finalize the recruitment.
Nurses can be selected basing on various key points. These points include; the level of education of the nurse, the experience the nurse has and any extra specialty that the nurse has. When all the qualities needed have been identified, nurses are selected through two methods, direct recruitment or indirect recruitment. A good selection criterion should be followed so that qualified and committed employees are picked to work in an organization (Saini & Singh, 2008).

An efficient onboard process ensures that an organization has skilled and efficient workers. The workers will have satisfaction in their job, have high performance in the job, be committed in all that they do and also there will be reduced work related stress and any attempts to quit work. A good onboard process ensures that an organization saves a lot in terms of employing new staff.
Some of the strategies that can be put in place to retain nurses involve creating a favorable environment for them through; hiring nurses who have experience, offering tuition reimbursement to nurses, formation of nurse mentor program, involving them in decision making, paying them when they go for conferences and offering bonus on the basic allowance for those who have a specialty (Gooch, 2016).
